Bruno Giacometti
The architect
Bruno Giacometti was born in 1907 in Stampa into a family of artists: he was the son of the painter Giovanni Giacometti and the brother of the sculptor Alberto Giacometti. He studied architecture at ETH Zurich and continued his education in Paris and Rome, where he engaged with modern European architectural movements. Based in Zurich, he developed a restrained, functional, and rigorous style, with a strong focus on public architecture. His major works include the Swiss Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (1952) and the headquarters of the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva. He is regarded as one of the leading figures of 20th-century Swiss architecture. He died in 2012.
