Ernesto Picenoni
Stone sculpture exhibition
Ernesto Picenoni (1939–2024) was a self-taught artist from Bregaglia. He was very talented at drawing and, over time, developed into a skilled sculptor thanks to his work as a bricklayer and sacristan at the church in Bondo. Initially, he made gravestones on commission. In 1982, he created animal sculptures for the PrimExpo trade fair in Lugano. In 2002, he took part in the 18th edition of the International Nativity Scene Exhibition in Verona, where he exhibited his figures, almost all of which were made from stone from Pontresina. In 2015, he presented the works ‘Al tröp e al tröp pööch’ as part of the C4 in Chiavenna.
In summer, his pictures can be viewed in Donato Salis' Osteria in Bondo.
His sculptures can also be admired in the cellar of the ‘Capolago Promontogno’ house at Via Principale 16 in Promontogno.
