21st Festival della Castagna in Val Bregaglia

Between the villages of Soglio, Bondo and Castasegna lies a large area of chestnut groves. For a long time, chestnuts played an important role in the southern valleys as a reliable source of food in times of crisis.
The 21st Festival della Castagna was a complete success. Visitor numbers were very good, with a total of around 3,000, in line with previous years. Many events were sold out. The tours of the chestnut forest led by the chestnut farmers were very popular. In general, guests are interested in learning more about Bregaglia and getting to know local traditions. Chestnuts are also of culinary interest, whether in the form of Lan castegna da Calendamarz, boiled chestnuts with bacon and cream, or other chestnut specialities. The book Castegna (LandLiebe Verlag), published this autumn, highlights the importance of Bregaglia chestnuts with beautiful photos, texts and delicious recipes. The 21st Festival della Castagna ended on Sunday, 19 October 2025, in the piazza in Castasegna and was very well received by guests and the local population. Bregaglia Engadin Turismo would like to thank all the partners of the 21st Festival della Castagna, in particular the Società d'utilità pubblica Bregaglia for the beautiful decorations in the villages, which contributed to the success of this edition. The next date to celebrate the Bregaglia chestnut is 26 September 2026, when the 22nd Festival della Castagna will open.
