Location: Galleria il Salice, Castasegna
Everyone is invited to open the exhibition ‘Ailuperforra ossia La Stria in Galleria’ and to celebrate together with artist Ugo Giacometti. The sculptures are inspired by the Bregaglia tragicomedy La Stria by Giovanni Andrea Maurizio.
Ugo Giacometti was born in Valle Bregaglia. He attended compulsory school in Vicosoprano and Stampa. In 1992 he began an apprenticeship as a silviculturist with the Vicosoprano municipality and received his diploma in 1995. He moved to Ticino. He began to try his hand at chainsaw sculpture in 1996.
Starting in 1997, he began his real artistic career by collaborating, learning or working for the artists Klaus W. Prior, Willi Siber and Edgardo Ratti. After these formative experiences, he turned mainly to sculpting human subjects.
Over the years he has mainly created large-scale sculptures (up to 15 metres high) for public parks, private clients and events. Some of his sculptures have reached Italy, Kenya and the Czech Republic.
Ugo currently works as a silviculturist in the municipality of Bregaglia, devoting his spare time with passion and dedication to the creation of his typical - nowadays smaller - ‘little wooden men’.
