Our villages

In Val Bregaglia, picturesque and authentic villages line up side by side. Mostly they are located in the valley plain, or, like Soglio (1080m) and Roticcio (1267m), on the southern slope of the steep peaks. Since 2010 they are politically a municipality, each village has its own character: Vicosoprano (1067m), for example, was for a long time the main town in Val Bregaglia, here was the court seat, today you can still admire the impressive Pretorio. Stampa (994m), on the other hand, is the home of the Giacometti family of artists, and it is here that most of Bregaglia's museums can be found.

Soglio is famous for the magnificent view of the Bondasca Group and also for the Salis Palace, which has been used as a hotel for over 100 years. Casaccia (1458m) lies at the foot of two passes: the Maloja Pass and the Septimer Pass, and was once an important post office. Maloja (1809m), on the other hand, is a touristic foundation from the beginning of the 20th century, before there were only alpine huts here. And Castasegna, the most south-westerly village, already radiates a warm Italianità.

In 2015, the Bergell was awarded the prestigious Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society. The award recognizes that "a valley community on the edge of Switzerland draws its strength from its architectural heritage to promote independent development. The will to preserve one's own identity enables independent and creative solutions to challenges such as the construction of second homes, migration or the emptying of village centres". We are proud of this award and see it as a mission for the future.
