The Centro Giacometti offers a preview of the photographic exhibition that will retrace Alberto Giacometti's life and artistic career through his experiences in Bregaglia, the places of memory and creation.

125 years after the artist's birth and 60 years after his death, the exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in a creative, scenic, social and psychological world that deeply influenced Alberto Giacometti's emotional character and imagination, and from which he drew a lasting emotional connection to his home valley. The exhibition includes thoroughly researched image descriptions and answers questions that visitors to Bregaglia often ask themselves when following in Alberto Giacometti's footsteps in Stampa.

Mostly unpublished or little-known photographs from Giacometti's early years and iconic images from the 1950s and 1960s are hung in an original framing system designed to symbolise the fleeting nature of human existence.

On Saturday, 16 May 2026, the Centro Giacometti invites you to a preview of the photo exhibition, which will open on 6 June 2026.

Programme:
3 p.m. Presentation of the exhibition by Marco Giacometti, exhibition curator. Followed by thoughts on the significance of cultural heritage by Valérie Favre Accola, President of the Cantonal Council of Graubünden.
In the afternoon, we will listen to the song ‘Villaggetto natìo’, a recording made in recent months by pupils from the Scuole di Bregaglia. The song was sung 60 years ago by pupils from Stampa at Alberto Giacometti’s funeral.
Afterwards: visit to the exhibition and drinks reception.
